Maurice Chevelle Shelton is the fifth child of nine children. He was born in Blue Island, IL, grew up in the Dixmoor/Harvey, IL Area. Maurice moved to Kankakee, IL in 2003. In 2004, he went to school to earn his CDL’s and he drove semi-trucks, straight trucks, and he also worked other warehouse and production jobs for 6 years. In 2009, Maurice went back to school and graduated in 2012 with a AAS in Computer Information Systems (CIS). In June of 2013 he received his license as a Minister and in July of 2014 he was appointed as a Resident Board Commissioner for the Kankakee County Housing Authority. In August of 2014, Maurice sought to fulfill his God given vision of creating a youth organization by opening Choices Youth Outreach International whose mission is the mentor teen aged boys, guiding them to make good life choices. Choices is formatted to help these young men find their confidence, their greatness and their purpose in life to continue their education beyond high school and become positive productive members of society. In October of 2014 Maurice was certified as a Ministerial Coach and a Master Addiction & Recovery Coach and in September of 2014 he started volunteering at the Kankakee High School. In February of 2015 he started a tutoring program at the Kankakee Public Library for kids ages 10 to 18. He has volunteered as a motivational speaker at the Branden House 90 day inpatient addiction recovery facility for the last 5years. Maurice states that there is a mandate on his life to helps others, to do outreach and to give back to the community (The Great Commission).
